How to Write Resume for Job in Armenia – [2 Minute Guide]

Resumes are a necessary part of the job application process. They allow you to introduce yourself and your skills to potential employers, and they give them an idea of what you're looking for in a position.

When writing a resume for jobs in Armenia, it's important to keep in mind that Armenian resumes will be different from Western resumes. This article will provide tips on what you should include when writing your resume for employment here, as well as how these differences will affect the finished product compared with similar documents written elsewhere around the world.

What to include on a Resume in Armenia?

The following should be included in your Armenian resume:

  • Your contact information
  • Availability dates (optional)
  • Education (and GPA, if you're still studying)
  • Objective statement (optional)
  • Skills and experience (compare with job requirements)
  • Work samples (for IT jobs)

What not to include on a Resume in Armenia?

There are certain things that generally don't need to be included in Armenian resumes:

Hobbies and interests - While hobbies and interests can help potential employers get to know you better, they're not usually included on resumes. It's fine to mention them in your cover letter, but they're not important enough to go on the resume itself.

Personal data - Though potential employers may want to know where you live, marital status and family information are unnecessary for resumes. As is height, weight, hair color and eye color.

A photo - Armenian resumes don't include photos of applicants. While some companies will request them if you come in for an interview, the best practice is to leave them off your resume entirely.

Though this might seem like a disadvantage at first glance, the blank slate of the resume allows people to put their best foot forward. Employers are expecting that you'll be more professional when applying for jobs here than elsewhere around the world. Recruiters aren't going to be sizing you up before reading the rest of your resume. In fact, they won't even see what you look like until you arrive for an interview unless you choose to include a headshot along with your resume when applying via email!

Though certain aspects of resumes in Armenia are different from those in Western countries, the overall purpose remains the same: it's meant to highlight your skills and convince employers that you're well-qualified for a position in their company. As long as you meet these criteria, you shouldn't worry about how well your resume lines up with international guidelines.

How should my Armenian Resume look?

There isn't a set style guide on how to write resumes in Armenia so use the following list as a general guideline for formatting and layout.

I recommend that you keep your resume to a single page if possible, though you can go up to two pages if needed. If you're an experienced worker, feel free to add more, but the shorter your resume is the better chance it has of standing out from the rest.

  • 12 pt. font
  • Times New Roman or Ariel (for ease and international appeal)
  • Sample text: Dear Hiring Manager:
  • Resume should be in Word doc format (or PDF if applying via email)
  • Note: Feel free to use bold lettering sparingly throughout your document (one time on each focal point).
  • 2" margins on all sides

Cover letter

Applicants in Armenia are expected to submit cover letters with their resumes. A well-written cover letter can set you apart from the rest of applicants who didn't take the time to craft one, so it's important to make yours compelling and concise.

  • 3 paragraphs (1 paragraph for each focal point)
  • 1" margins when writing your cover letter (to match margins on resume)

Note: Even when turning your resume into a PDF file, always write the text in Microsoft Word first! Then you can save as PDF to attach when sending via email. This way, formatting issues will be much less likely to occur in recipients' inboxes. You can also use this method for applying via a job board, but make sure to put the phrase "Resume Attachment" in bold at the top of your cover letter before sending it.

I mentioned that you should attach your resume as PDF when emailing employers directly or using job boards. When writing cover letters, however, choose Microsoft Word format instead (so feel free to include helpful formatting). This will allow you to highlight relevant information throughout the document and save the recipient time by allowing them to easily copy and paste it into an applicant tracking system (ATS).
